Body Sculpt at Swing Kettlebell School

man and woman using kettlebells to workout

Swing SF is all about Kettlebell training

CLASS: Full Body Sculpt

TRAINER: Luke Wilson — Luke explains all of the movements in detail and makes everyone follow along with him to ensure he sees how everyone moves. He is very attentive during the workout and comes around making small adjustments and suggestions where needed.

SWEAT: 9/10. Wow! This class is going to kick your booty, in the best way!

LEVEL: This class is beginner friendly but it moves quickly, and you should have a base level of fitness

TOP 3 TAKEAWAYS:

  • Kettlebells FTW: Since this is Swing Kettlebell School, you’ll be using (you guessed it) kettlebells! Kettlebells provide a great combination of strength training, stability, and mobility training all in one and the instructors at Swing make them accessible and not intimidating to jump into using.
  • All About Efficiency: The space is small and fills up, but you never feel like anyone is encroaching on your personal bubble. The movements require a small space, but that doesn’t mean you won’t leave drenched in sweat.
  • Expert Training: Owners Luke and Rich know their stuff! With backgrounds in kinesiology, elite athletics and opening multiple gyms, they are experts when it comes to strength training and functional fitness. All of the trainers hold certifications in kettlebells as well, so you’ll leave every class with a new kettlebell technique.

MUSIC: No music, but you won’t notice. The focus is all on the workout here.

CLASSPASS: Yes

The Full Body Sculpt class starts with some active stretching to warm up, which includes inchworms, world’s greatest stretch, and hip circles. What follows are AMRAP (as many rounds as possible) circuits using various movements and equipment.

Here’s what we mean: Let’s take a circuit of medicine ball work.  Luke would guide you through each exercise, and everyone does one round together. Then, he puts ten minutes on the clock, and you try and complete as many rounds as possible before the clock runs out. There are usually around four or five movements which could include thrusters, around the world, woodchoppers and squats. The second circuit is where the kettlebells come in, and it turns into true strength training. The same process applies, but the exercises are all kettlebell-specific, which could include lunges, rows, overhead presses, deadlifts or many more.

There is always a finisher, so even when the second circuit is over, you’re not done yet! This is a final exercise which could be a core routine or bodyweight exercise to round out the workout. This might be something like bear crawls back and forth across the studio multiple times, to make sure those arms and legs got worked!
